Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov conferred with Hungary's Ambassador to Bulgaria, Miklos Boros, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Thursday.

In the context of the EU agenda’s priorities announced by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Bulgarian side highlighted the importance of security and defence, enhancing the EU's competitiveness, countering illegal migration, EU enlargement based on the principle of own merits, as well as preserving the role of the EU's cohesion and common agricultural policies, and tackling demographic challenges.

Kondov underscored the importance of Bulgaria’s future accession to Schengen by land, and that he expects it to happen as soon as possible. Preparations for Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone were also noted as an important priority for the caretaker government.

The two sides agreed that the bilateral dialogue between Bulgaria and Hungary is excellent and discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, energy, science and culture.
