The Sofia City Court Wednesday said that it has struck off Korneliya Ninova as Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader and representative of the party.

BSP is now represented by its deputy chair and acting leader Atanas Zafirov.

The court refused to enter Zafirov as the party leader until a BSP congress elects Ninova's successor.

The decision can be challenged before a supreme court over the next seven days.

Ninova announced her resignation on June 11. She came down over the party's weak performance in the June 9 elections. On June 29, the party's competent body found that she is not eligible for election for a third term as party leader.
