Sofia municipal councillors on Thursday adopted a declaration for the removal or relocation of one registration centre and two accommodation centres of the State Agency for Refugees in the boroughs of Vrazhdebna and Voenna Rampa.

The declaration was submitted by Carlos Contrera of VMRO-Bulgarian National Movement.

The declaration was adopted with 25 votes in favour, 13 votes against and two abstentions.

According to Carlos Contrera, the existence of these centres and the uncontrolled movement of migrants residing there is causing tension and they should be abolished.

"A declaration like this is probably one of the best things we can do, which is to express our clear wish that these centres are removed from the city," said Deyan Nikolov of Vazrazhdane.

Hristo Koparanov of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria submitted an alternative declaration. "My declaration raises the question for security measures in Sofia that will apply both to foreigners and all Bulgarian citizens who also violate public order," said Koparanov.
