The youth organisation of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is calling on BSP leader Korneliya Ninova to resign immediately, Gabriel Valkov, chair of the youth organisation, told journalists on Monday.

According to BSP's youth, the party's June 9 election results are catastrophic. "Since 2017, Ninova has lost 800,000 votes in support of the BSP, this cannot continue any longer," Valkov stressed, adding that the socialists are fighting for their survival.

In Valkov’s words, according to the preliminary results the BSP stands at 6.9%, which equals some 140,000 votes. "From 950,000 votes we dropped to 140,000 votes – we think this is a bottom and someone should take responsibility," he said, adding that the leader should always take responsibility.

Secondly, the young socialists demand the immediate convening of the National Council of the BSP, which in turn to convene a congress to vote on Ninova's resignation and elect an interim president until a new party leader is elected.
