Bulgaria's caretaker Cabinet on Wednesday evening adopted a report by the Minister of Energy on the options of implementing a National Assembly resolution of January 31, 2020 with a view to guaranteeing the security of the energy system and the uninterrupted deliveries of end suppliers.

By that resolution, Parliament obliged the Council of Ministers to take all necessary measures for the prevention, in the long term, of the cessation of operation and/or limitation of the production capacity of the coal-fired thermoelectric power plants which are subsidiaries of the wholly state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holding, the Government Information Service reported.

Under the Energy Act, the Minister of Energy determines an overall annual quota for compulsory purchase of electricity from local producers using local primary sources of fuel in order to ensure the security of power supply.
