Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov welcomed the participants in the Second Global Conference of the Geiger Project, which is being held in Bulgaria at the initiative of INTERPOL. Bulgaria's hosting of the event, which brings together working groups from the Black Sea, Caucasus, Southeast Asia and Africa regions, is a kind of recognition of the country's efforts in effectively countering organized crime - a result achieved through cooperation with colleagues from Interpol, Stoyanov said in his speech.

Stoyanov thanked for the consistent initiative of the International Criminal Police Organization INTERPOL, proof of which is the holding of the Second Global Conference of the Geiger project - a platform that allows active information exchange related to the possible threats of trafficking in radio frequency and nuclear materials and the identification of their potential use for criminal activities at national, regional and international level.

The format of Tuesday's event is a platform for active sharing of views and experiences among law enforcement experts. It will allow for the acceleration of future interaction not only on specific cases in the region and will promote the use of the INTERPOL toolbox, Stoyanov said. He expressed confidence that the Geiger database as an information technology system will enable timely sharing of information - a key mechanism for effective counter-terrorism threats.

Stoyanov assured the participants in the global format that Bulgaria accepts with great responsibility the membership in the International Criminal Police Organisation, which unites 196 countries. In his words, INTERPOL is a key factor that coordinates the international cooperation of police authorities from different countries in the fight against crime, builds common policies and expert networks, and defends the common mission to protect the freedom fought for.

Bulgaria is hosting the Second Geiger Global Conference. It brings together representatives of the INTERPOL General Secretariat, 36 countries from the Southeast Asia, South Africa, Black Sea and Caucasus regions, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. The first similar format was carried out in 2022 in Istanbul.
