"The deeds of Cyril and Methodius remind us of the power of words and knowledge that unite us and make us stronger," Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev said in his speech during the official ceremony in front of the National Library on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature. Earlier, he took part in the solemn procession in the centre of Sofia, part of the May 24 celebrations.

May 24 is one of the brightest and most inspiring holidays in the Bulgarian calendar, a day when Bulgaria is proud of its culture and spirituality, Terziev said.

Culture is the bridge between the past and the future. Books, music, art - they are all an integral part of life and enrich us spiritually, the mayor said.

"Today, when the world is changing so rapidly, we must remember our roots and cherish our culture and educational tradition. Let us continue to learn and develop, to be open to new knowledge and technologies, but also to protect and respect our heritage," Terziev urged.

Let this day be filled with joy, pride and inspiration, he said.
