"Only he who does not know the cost of the ruin of ignorance can fear the cost of education," Radev said in his speech on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature.
As countries around the world today race to invest in science and education, Bulgaria cannot afford the imprudence to turn its back on the potential of its scientists, teachers and researchers, the President said. I believe that the government, Parliament, and all of society will listen to the call of the university rectors for an honest conversation about the future of education and science, and will seek sustainable, long-term solutions, Radev added.
He said that during his visit to Rome on Thursday, doors for the Bulgarian delegation were wide open everywhere as a sign of great respect for Bulgaria's valuable contribution to the development of European civilisation, culture and education for the spiritual unity of Europe.
"Let us remember not only today, but every day that the dignity of a society, its standard of living and prosperity are directly related to the attitude towards knowledge," the Head of State said.
