Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray awarded Bulgaria's acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov with a certificate of merit for his personal contribution to the successful cooperation between the Bulgarian prosecuting magistracy and the FBI in the fight against cross-border organized crime, the prosecuting magistracy said in a press release on Thursday. The award was presented to Sarafov at an event in the FBI headquarters in Washington. He is on a working visit to the United States at the invitation of the US Department of Justice.

The two sides have discussed criminal law cooperation between the Bulgarian prosecuting magistracy and US law enforcement institutions in the context of contemporary security challenges and interaction in the fight against transnational organized crime. The meeting also discussed joint actions against international criminal groups involving Bulgarian citizens.

During his working visit to the US, Sarafov also visited the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where it was agreed that for the first time an investigator from Bulgaria’s National Investigation Service would undergo the Academy's full training course, and that Bulgarian investigators would be regularly sent for FBI training in the future.
