62 Alerts Received for Election Process Violations Thus Far, Leading to 26 Pre-Trial Proceedings - Interior Minister

So far, the Bulgarian authorities have received a total of 62 alerts for violation of the electoral process and 26 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov told the press here Tuesday. He pointed out that an operation against vote-buying and domestic crime, which took place Monday in Varna, and future police actions are based on received operational information.

Following the police operation in Varna, 45 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, 12 of them for crimes against the political rights of citizens. 14 addresses have been searched, and lists of people, bank cards, phones and cash have been seized, Stoyanov said. Two people who were declared wanted were found.

The Minister added that the price for a vote varies between BGN 50 and BGN 100. "Thus far, the most alerts and pre-trial proceedings are seen in Burgas, but now Varna's numbers are approaching Burgas'," said the Interior Minister.
