The Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has proposed that its member, inspector Alexander Mumdjiev, be dismissed over inappropriate behaviour and damaging the prestige of the judiciary. The move followed media reports that Mumdjiev behaved inappropriately during an official trip and damaged the prestige of the judiciary.
According to media accounts of the SJC inspector's stay at a hotel during an official visit in Vratsa, he behaved inappropriately with the chambermaids and was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested briefly after a complaint from the hotel staff.
"The SJC Inspectorate distances itself from the behavior of Alexander Mumdjiev, which undermined the prestige of the judiciary, of the Inspectorate and of judges, prosecutors and investigators," the Inspectorate said in a statement.
Later in the day, acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov sent a report on the matter to Parliament deputy chair Rossitsa Kirova in a view of Parliament's powers to appoint and dismiss members of the SJC Inspectorate.
