- Radio and Television Day.

On this date in Bulgarian history: 

1836: The Berkovitsa Uprising breaks out against Ottoman rule, with the participation of 3,000 to 4,000 people.  

1962: The Maritza East 2 Thermal Power Plant goes under construction.

1992: In Strasbourg, Bulgaria signs Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

1992: In Strasbourg, Bulgaria signs protocol of accession to Council of Europe.

2001:  An explosion occurs on board the Bulgarian tanker "Mesta" in the area of the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta, killing two of the 34-member crew.

2004: Diplomatic relations are established with Honduras.

2004: The five-star Grand Hotel Sofia is unveiled in the place of the former city library next to the National Theatre.
