A total of 108.27 kilograms of marijuana were seized by customs officers from at the Kulata checkpoint, the National Customs Agency said in a press release.
On March 30, customs inspectors selected a truck arriving from Spain for inspection using the risk analysis method. An x-ray scan was performed where a suspicious area was marked. During the subsequent physical inspection, 14 cartons containing packets of marijuana were found in the cargo hold, valued at BGN 1,728,000.
The narcotic substance and the vehicle were seized. The driver of the truck, a Bulgarian citizen - was arrested and charged, with Blagoevgrad prosecution service requesting he be detained in custody. The penalty for drug trafficking is 10 to 15 years of imprisonment and a fine of BGN 100,000 to BGN 200,000.
