A conference on the start of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) is being organised at 10:30 on Tuesday at the House of Europe, the building housing the European Parliament Liaison Office in Sofia. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel and Belgian Ambassador Frederic Möris are expected at the event, said the organisers from PanEuoropa - Bulgaria and the Belgian Embassy in Bulgaria.

The discussion will be opened by Gergana Passy, President of PanEuropa-Bulgaria, and Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, Head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bulgaria. The opening will be followed by a conversation with Gabriel and Ambassador Möris.

Belgium took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the 13th time on January 1, 2024. The Belgian Presidency has as its main task for the next six months the continuation of assistance to Ukraine. The primary task will be to provide sustainable political, economic, military, humanitarian and legal assistance to the Ukrainian side, according to the Presidency's programme.
