Issues of bilateral cooperation were on the agenda of a meeting between MPs from the parliamentary group Austria-Bulgaria, Romania and Bulgarian Ambassador to Vienna Dessislava Naydenova-Gospodinova, the Embassy said. The meeting took place at the initiative of the Bulgarian diplomat.
Ambassador Naydenova expressed confidence that Bulgaria’s membership of Schengen will enhance security and competitiveness of the region and of Europe. The chair of the parliamentary group, Dr Harald Torch, expressed the view that Bulgaria’s and Romania’s membership of Schengen will be beneficial for the whole European Union.
In her remarks, Ambassador Naydenova said that 2024 will mark the 145th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Austria, but that the relations between the two countries have much longer history and traditions. She said that in the respect the connecting link the Danube River and she expressed readiness on behalf of Bulgaria for the implementation of joint initiatives within the framework of the Austrian chairmanship of the Danube Strategy.
The meeting also focused on the need for joint efforts to solve common problems and challenges; the role of parliamentary friendship groups as a bridge and impetus to the parliamentary dimension of bilateral cooperation; wats to advance cooperation and joint initiatives in education, culture and tourism.
