The deadline to elect a chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council is December 12, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said at the beginning of Thursday’s council meeting.

He stressed that otherwise a lot of money will be lost, and the municipality will be working with a plan-account for cleaning up the city from last year. “I'm appealing to everyone, regardless of party cost, to find a solution by Monday so we have a chairman on Tuesday,” Terziev said, adding that the work of the council must ne unblocked.

The Sofia Municipal Council adjourned its meeting on Thursday, the next one is on December 18. Forty-five city councillors voted in favour of the motion, one opposed and there were no abstentions. The postponement was necessary because there is still no understanding about the election of the chair of the Council. Georgi Georgiev from GERB-UDF said that if an agreement on the chairman was reached earlier, the meeting could be moved to an earlier date.

The candidates of the parties last week were from BSP for Bulgaria - Diana Tonova, Vazrazhdane - Krassimir Galabov, There Is Such a People - Plamen Danailov. Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria ("Save Sofia") withdrew the candidacy of Boris Bonev, and GERB-UDF did not nominate a candidate.
