site.btaOver 4,800 Contraband Cigarette Packs Seized at Bulgarian-Turkish Border Crossing

Customs officials found 96,200 contraband cigarettes (4,810 packs) during a check of a freight vehicle at the Lesovo border control checkpoint on the border with Turkiye on Monday, the Customs Agency reported Tuesday. The vehicle was driven by a Turkish national, who declared he was transporting laundry detergent from Turkiye to Romania.

The smuggled cigarettes were hidden among the detergent. They were seized, and the driver was issued a statement of administrative violation.

According to the Customs Agency's data, a total of 2,603,000 contraband cigarettes were seized at the Lesovo border crossing last year.
