In a BTA interview, Labour and Social Policy Minister Ivanka Shalapatova said Bulgarian women are becoming increasingly confident. They say "no" to all forms of violence and "yes" to all kinds of support; they are successful parents and partners in the family; leaders, entrepreneurs and individuals realizing their huge economic potential. Equal opportunities should be created for  women to be able to demonstrate their superpower in both their social and economic roles, the Minister said.

The Labour and Social Policy Ministry is ready to hear all proposals from its civil society partners on ways to improve legislation so as to ensure equal opportunities for women and men, she added. One of the government's main priorities is to improve the results in achieving gender equality, Shalapatova said.

On Tuesday, she signed memorandums of cooperation in the area of equal opportunity for men and women with the Ladies' Forum and the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria. The aim is to promote, through joint initiatives, the professional development of women in corporate, small and medium-sized business and entrepreneurship.

The Council of Women in Business is organizing a Global Women Leaders' Forum on Thursday. It will discuss ways to achieve equality between men and women.
