The Convention on the Rights of the Child’s general comment No. 26 (2023) on children’s rights and the environment with a special focus on climate change was officially presented here on Wednesday. The event was organized by UNICEF Bulgaria in collaboration with Bulgaria’s Environment and Water Ministry.

“It is very important for politicians to tell children, 'Yes, we hear your voices,' but what is even more important is the commitments they make and the actual actions they take,” Labor and Social Policy Minister Ivanka Shalapatova said.

“In order to fight child poverty, we should improve access to quality healthcare, education, food, etc.,” she added. Shalapatova noted that the Voice of Children and Their Families campaign was launched on her initiative.

She stressed that the whole Government is in the process of updating Bulgaria's National Strategy for the Child.

The event was also attended by Environment and Water Minister Julian Popov.
