The opposition's criticisms (of his Cabinet's energy sector policy) lacks grounds, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov told journalists in Parliament during the debate on the vote of no confidence in the Government. Denkov specially thanked the Energy Minister and his team for doing a tremendous job to date - difficult and highly skilled, while also creating the publicity that is needed.

"Indeed, I expect the Government to be supported," Denkov said.

"The only failure we have seen today [Thursday] is in the opposition's attempts to lie to the Bulgarian people that some energy apocalypse is coming," Denkov said at the end of the debate.

Commenting the meeting in Parliament held earlier on Thursday between its Chair, his deputies and the leaders of the six parliamentary groups to discuss national security matters in the light of the Middle East crisis and the war in Ukraine, the Prime Minister said that the meeting was aimed exclusively at informing MPs what the situation was, what the risks were and what measures the Government has taken. The three main institutions must work in sync, Denkov stressed.

The Prime Minister said that there is no immediate threat to Bulgaria, except for sites connected to Israel, such as embassies, synagogues, tourist groups, where attention must be paid.

The Government has already taken measures and they are related to security of key sites that are high-risk, including sites where people gather such as train stations, ports, airports, he said. One risk that should not be underestimated is a possible future refugee wave, but it is not expected in the immediate days and the flow at the moment are not towards Bulgaria but towards other countries, Denkov said.
