Movement for Rights and Freedoms to Propose Bulgaria's EU, NATO Membership Enshrined in Constitution

Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) MP Delyan Peevski said on Friday that MRF will propose Bulgaria's EU and NATO membership to be included in the Constitution, he told journalists in parliament on the occasion of the first vote on amendments to the Constitution. 

The proposal to include EU and NATO membership in the Constitution was made months ago by public figures and intellectuals, including Rosen Plevneliev, Solomon Passy and others. Thus enshrined, membership of the two alliances would not be subject to referendum. Peevski said the MRF would propose the change "as early as tomorrow".

The MP explained that his parliamentray group will also propose to abolish the possibility for the Prosecutor General to have two consecutive terms.
