site.bta17 Parties and Three Coalitions Registered for October 29 Local Elections

A total of 17 parties and three coalitions have registered for the October 29 local elections since the opening of registration with the Central Election Commission (CEC) on September 4, CEC Deputy Chair Rossitsa Mateva said during a regular news briefing.

She said that CEC have already appointed 206 municipal election commissions and there are less than 60 commissions that remain to be appointed, which CE has until September 8 to do.

The municipal commissions are due to start work on September 9. 

On September 13, all parties and coalitions which have submitted papers, will be registered by CEC. The information about the registrations will be forwarded to the municipal commissions so that they can start the registrations at municipal level (until September 18).

At the upcoming elections, Bulgarians will vote for 265 mayors of municipalities and 35 mayors of boroughs. The number of mayors of mayoralties will be clear by the end of this week based on information from the National Statistical Institute, said Mateva.
