Interior Ministry Secretary General Petar Todorov told journalists here on Friday that President Rumen Radev has already cleared his resignation and has sent it to the Council of Ministers, which is supposed to adopt a decision and ask the President to decree his release.
Todorov, who resigned on August 30, explained that he had set a condition to Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov that he would work with him provided he is not involved in politically motivated purges of senior officials and economic schemes. The Minister agreed, but several days later something changed, and Todorov was told that he could no longer work with him. In his opinion, this happened after Continue the Change Co-leader Kiril Petkov visited Stoyanov's office.
The Government insisted on Todorov's departure, but President Radev refused to decree his dismissal. His resignation followed shortly.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov told reporters in Parliament that incumbent Interior Ministry Deputy Secretary General Zhivko Kotsev will be nominated to succeed Todorov as Secretary General.
