Police in Dubai have no information about Petar "the Euro" Petrov, a former ranking investigator and now a key figure in the Eight Dwarfs investigation into trade in influence and theft of companies in the judiciary. This was announced by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry following multiple inquiries after reports that Petrov, who was rumoured to have fled to Dubai to escape Bulgarian justice, has suffered a stroke or has died.

The Foreign Ministry will approach all other emirates. It will continue to follow the case and make public any information it obtains.

Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov told a news briefing on August 23 that his Ministry could not confirm the reports that Petrov had died in the United Arab Emirates.

There is still a valid European arrest warrant for Petrov.

Petrov was charged in the Eight Dwarfs case together with his ex-wife Lyubena Petrova and prosecutor Dilyan Deyanov.

The case was prompted by an investigation named "Eight Dwarfs" by the Anti-Corruption Fund in 2020.
