The Council of Ministers will allocate tasks to the ministries responsible for conducting the local elections. Those are the Interior Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry, the Justice Ministry and the e-Government Ministry, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at the start of the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.

Each of those ministries will have specific responsibilities to deal with over the next two months. And those tasks should be carried out in coordination with the Central Election Commission, Denkov said.

Along with maintaining public order, fighting against migrant trafficking, fighting against the production and distribution of drugs, and ensuring road safety, the Interior Ministry will take on a number of new tasks, which must be carried out well and in a timely manner, Denkov emphasized.

On July 31, President Rumen Radev signed a decree scheduling the elections for mayors and municipal councillors for October 29, 2023.
