Bucharest metro workers ended their strike late on Tuesday following several hours of negotiations with the government,  local media reported.
The company management will decide on Wednesday whether to stop with the strikes entirely, said Digi24, adding that on Wednesday morning some of the metro cars were running late. Many employees are on sick leave or vacation, the publication reads.

On Tuesday, the employees  on strike were assured of a RON 1,050 (BGN 420) wage increase, as agreed at the end of 2024 with the signing of a new collective agreement. Currently, a Metrorex employee receives an average of RON 7,500 (BGN 3,000) per month.

Employees of the most used mode of public transport in the Romanian capital will also receive daily food vouchers worth RON 30 (BGN 12).

Metro workers in Bucharest began protests in late January and continued with a warning strike in February. They were dissatisfied with a new regulation that cancelled their wage increase agreed upon in late 2024.

Bucharest's metro serves about 700,000 passengers a day, or 25% of the Romanian capital's population, according to Metro Free Trade Union head Marian Artimon.
