Representatives of various theatres from Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia held two panels dedicated to the European perspectives of good examples and positive experience, and international theatre bridges between the institutional and non-governmental sectors on Friday and Saturday in Skopje. The meeting on Saturday focused the topic of "Theatrical relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia: Current status and European perspectives".
The conference, organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria in the Republic of North Macedonia and the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje, began on Friday with an introductory meeting, and was opened by the Bulgarian Ambassador in Skopje Zhelyazko Radukov, who outlined the goals of the project, which aims to support theatre representatives from the two countries working together, being useful to each other, creating art and communicating, and implementing opportunities that European funds provide.
The Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre hosted representatives of theatres from Sofia and Skopje, from Varna, Veles, Blagoevgrad, Prilep, Kumanovo, non-governmental organizations working in the field of theatre art, the Faculty of Dramatic Art in Skopje, consulting companies. In an open discussion, representatives of the creative professions talked about institutional and non-institutional connections in the context of theatre practices and collaborations. The Plovdiv Theatre and Veles Theatre's two-year project Manifesto, as well as the production Superman, a collaboration with artists from the Varna Theatre and artists from North Macedonia, were cited as good examples. In the evening, conference participants attended the performance of The Queen of Spades opera, a guest performance by the Varna State Opera and the National Opera and Ballet of North Macedonia.
