For such offensive remarks a minister in a European country will be urged to resign immediately, GERB Deputy Chairman and former Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov told journalists on Wednesday, reacting to statements made in a TV interview by North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski.

Nikoloski called Bulgaria “uncivilized" for disrespecting North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska after  the national flag of North Macedonia was absent in a photo of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev with Siljanovska during her visit on September 13.

Skopje's rhetoric has escalated tothe point of speaking in such an inappropriate way, Mitov added. According to him, a minister of a government in a European country has no right to use such words in relation not only to a neighbouring country, but to any other European country, a European nation. Obviously, this is yet another provocation on the part of North Macedonia aimed at destroying what has been  achieved so far, concluded Mitov. According to him, Bulgaria should respond as firmly as possible and at the same time without emotions and overreaction. It is important to see what the reaction of the prime minister and the government of North Macedonia will be, he added.
