North Macedonia's Ambassador to Bulgaria Agneza Rusi-Popovska was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Friday to be given a note of strong protest, the Foreign Ministry's press office said on Friday.

The reaction was prompted by a press conference by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski on August 29, 2024. The Bulgarian side reiterated its consistent position on Skopje's European perspective. It was noted with regret that the systematic provocations and the refusal to implement commitments made by officials of the neighbouring country are further distancing it from entering into negotiations with the EU.

The caretaker cabinet and any future cabinet will continue the natural line of Bulgarian foreign policy towards North Macedonia, aimed at guaranteeing human rights and respecting the principles of good neighbourliness, the statement said.
