Traffic is heavy at some of the border crossings with Romania and Greece, as reported on the General Directorate Border Police's website early Wednesday.

At the border with Romania, there is heavy traffic through the Vidin, Kardam, Oryahovo and Durankulak border control checkpoints for lorries exiting Bulgaria.

Due to repair works of the Giurgiu-Ruse bridge over the Danube on the Bulgarian side, traffic is controlled by traffic lights to let vehicles through in stages. Alternative routes can go through the checkpoints at Silistra, Kardam, Durankulak, Kaynardzha or Krushari. Kaynardzha and Krushari are open daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., and lorries are not allowed through them.

Traffic at the border crossings with Greece is heavy at the Kulata checkpoint for lorries moving in either direction.

Considering the heavy traffic at the Kulata and Makaza checkpoints, travellers are advised to use alternative routes if possible, through the Ilinden, Zlatograd or Kapitan Petko Voyvoda checkpoints, depending on their destination.

Only passenger cars and vans are allowed through the Makaza, Zlatograd and Ivaylovgrad checkpoints.

Traffic at the border crossings with Serbia, Turkiye and the Republic of North Macedonia is normal. Some difficulties in crossing the border with the Republic of North Macedonia at Gyueshevo are possible.
