The national news agency of Romania, AGERPRES, celebrated its 135th anniversary on Wednesday with a conference on "The AI era, innovations and digital challenges in contemporary journalism". The event took place at the Carol I Central University Library of Bucharest and was opened by AGERPRES Director General Claudia Nicolae. In her speech, she stressed that the agency has a loyal partner across the Danube in the Bulgarian News Agency and added that in the fight against misinformation and fake news, the cooperation between the two agencies is particularly important.

Bulgarian Ambassador to Romania Radko Vlaykov congratulated the hosts on behalf of BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.

“Shortly before I came as Bulgaria's Ambassador to Romania, BTA and AGERPRES signed a cooperation agreement through which they exchange news every day. This is very important. As you can see, there is now more information about Bulgaria in Romania and about Romania in Bulgaria. BTA has also had a correspondent in Bucharest for a year and that is Martina Gancheva. We are also expecting a correspondent of AGERPRES in Sofia," the Bulgarian diplomat said.

He added that it is very important how countries like Bulgaria and Romania will react to the hybrid war and propaganda from the North.

"As former socialist countries, we are the biggest opponents of this propaganda," the diplomat said, adding that Bulgaria and Romania, in particular BTA and AGERPRES, should work together in this direction as well.
