Sofia, November 23 (BTA) - Three weather stations in Bulgaria are among 70 across the world which have operated without interruption for over a century, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) said Friday. They have been recognized as part of the world cultural and scientific heritage by the World Meteorological Organization of the UN.

The three weather stations, all of them owned by NIMH, are at Obraztsov Chiflik in northern Bulgaria (opened 1889), at the south-central town of Sliven (opened 1890) and the northern town of Knezha (opened 1910).

They never took a break, not even during the wars in the first half of the 20th century.

After their nomination with the World Meteorological Organization, the three weather stations were thoroughly examined and awarded the designation of Centennial Observing Stations. LY/LN/
