Security Council with
Cabinet Adopts Position
on Ukraine-Russia Sea Clash

Sofia, November 28 (BTA) - The Security Council with the Bulgarian Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, has adopted a position on the clash between Ukrainian and Russian navy ships in the area of the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov, the Government Information Service said Wednesday.

The position reads that the dangerous escalation of tension in the Sea of Azov in recent days has led to the seizure of Ukrainian ships and their crews, as well as to the injury of Ukrainian service members. According to the Security Council, these actions on the part of the Russian Federation are inadmissible.

"It is in everyone's interest that the Russian Federation and Ukraine show restraint, and that the tension be overcome through dialogue. We call on the Russian authorities to release immediately the seized vessels and their crews. We expect the Russian Federation to observe the freedom of passage via the Kerch Strait in conformity with the Russian side's obligations under international law," the position reads.

The Security Council with the Cabinet will continue to closely monitor the situation, including in close cooperation with its EU and NATO partners, the Government Information Service said.
