Sofia, December 4 (BTA) - Sofia Deputy Mayor of Transport Evgeni Krussev has handed in his resignation. He announced this to the press at Sofia Municipality on Tuesday.

The reason for his decision was a subpoena he was served with on Monday, calling for him to report to the prosecuting magistracy next week to testify in connection to the central capitol street Graf Ignatiev renovation check.

Krussev said that he will clear his name and cooperate fully with the authorities. The required documentation has already been sent.

"As a contracting authority of this venture, I of course carry responsibility. If a designer or someone else involved in the process has misled me, I hope that the investigation will figure it out," Krussev said. He pointed out that Graf Ignatiev has become one of the beautiful streets in Sofia thanks to the renovations. Krussev believes that all renovation works will soon be completed, and expressed the hope that the trams will start running soon as well. LI/DT
