Sofia, December 8 (BTA) - The Bulgarian municipalities place at the top of the list in the EU in terms of won vouchers for free WiFi in public spaces awarded in the WIFI4EU initiative, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel said on Friday, quoted by the EC Representation in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian municipalities whose applications were successful are 209, and the municipalities with approved financing are 113, which translates in a high success rate of 54 per cent, Gabriel said.

In the first call of WIFI4EU, 2,800 municipalities across Europe won vouchers of 15,000 euros each to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot in public spaces. A new call will be opened in 2019, with two more to follow until 2020. LY/ZH
