The collapse of a 50-meter crane at the fishing port in Pomorie due to strong winds only caused material damage, with no injuries reported, Pomorie Mayor Ivan Aleksiev said here on Friday.

The crane, stationed at a construction site near the port for nearly two years, had reportedly been secured before it collapsed on Thursday. It remains unclear whether the jib had been properly unlocked to allow free rotation during the strong winds that evening, which reached speeds of up to 25 m/s.

Fishing port supervisor Georgi Gumenov said that initial assessments indicate seven boats were seriously damaged, one submerged and another crushed by the crane.

An inspection by municipal and insurance representatives is expected to assess and document the overall damages.
