An exhibition of works by artist Stefan Gatsev, primarily from the 1960s and 1970s, will open at Gallery Arte on April 22, the organisers said on Thursday.
The event will run in parallel with “I, the Artist” at Sofia City Art Gallery, providing a comprehensive look at Gatsev’s contribution to Bulgarian art.
The exhibition marks the 90th anniversary of Gatsev’s birth (1935–1986). It not only completes the overall impression of him as an artist but also highlights his remarkable skill as a draftsman. “His hand is precise and can convey any shape effortlessly. He does not select objects but draws everything around him at that moment. The cycles of marker drawings from his travels in Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Italy reveal how quickly he grasps each landscape’s specificity. At the same time, he turns a sketch into a finished artwork,” Ivan Marazov said, as quoted by Gallery Arte.
Approximately 25 of Gatsev’s paintings will be showcased at the exhibition. These works are supplied by the artist’s family and private collectors.
