British Ambassador to Bulgaria Nathaniel Copsey donated seven Land Rover New Defender vehicles, 2 drones, 60 thermal imaging cameras, gas analyzer filters, and dog accessories to the Border Police Directorate on Friday. These are intended for operational purposes and to increase the Directorate’s border control capacity.
Ambassador Copsey said that Bulgaria’s assistance in the fight against illegal migration is incredible. Thanks to the work of the Bulgarian Border Police, there has been a 30% reduction in the number of migrants attempting to cross the English Channel in small boats. Great Britain is extremely pleased and Bulgaria can always count on its support, noted Copsey, adding that it is extremely important for Great Britain to partner with the security services in the region now and in the future.
On behalf of Minister Mitov, Deputy Minister of the Interior Toni Todorov thanked the Ministry for the modern equipment provided. "It will be very useful for us to be efficient and technically secured at the most important external border, the Bulgarian-Turkish one," he said.
"The cooperation with the British Embassy is at a perfect level, one of the best international cooperations of the General Directorate of Border Police,” said Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov. “As a result of the exchange of information, good professional and personal contact, we managed to significantly reduce the smuggling of boats for illegal migrants, added the Director of the General Directorate of Border Police.
