“Since ancient times, martial arts have been a tool for building and perfecting one’s character. They educate in discipline and responsibility, will and dedication, in respect for the opponent,” said President Rumen Radev in his address to participants and guests of the Twelfth International Taekwondo Tournament Ramus Sofia Open 2025, quoted by his press secretariat.

This year's competition brought together more than 1,500 participants from nearly 20 countries representing more than a hundred clubs where the Korean martial art and sport is practiced. Taekwondo has been part of the Summer Olympics program since 2000.

In his address, President Radev congratulated the organizers. "Sport not only builds character but also unites people from near and far for the sake of the peaceful future of the planet," the head of State said.

The President wished success to the participants and stressed that regardless of the final standings, each athlete is an example to follow because of the high sportsmanship and will to win. "Your very presence in this hall is a victory. A victory over mobile phones and addictions which have a number of negative consequences. The world we live in needs such winners to face the challenges of tomorrow," Radev further said.

The President thanked parents, coaches and everyone involved in the organization of the tournament for their unconditional support.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Deputy Sports Minister Stoyan Andonov, South Korean Ambassador Dong-bae Kim, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation Chairman Slavi Binev, his deputy Dimitar Mihaylov and others.
