Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov thanked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the conversation the two had on Thursday. In the social network X Zhelyazkov wrote:

"I thank President Zelensky for the fruitful conversation for the common goal of achieving a just and lasting peace."

Zelenskyy also wrote on X that he "had a meaningful conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and expressed gratitude for Bulgaria’s unwavering support for Ukraine."

Later on Thursday, the Bulgarian Prime Minister will participate in the extraordinary European Council meeting in Brussels, the Government information service said.

The EU leaders will discuss ways to strengthen the common European defence in terms of collective capabilities, financing and strategic partnerships. In addition, the heads of State and Government will discuss ways to achieve lasting and sustainable peace and security guarantees for Ukraine.

Prior to the meeting, EU leaders will hold a discussion with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
