Photographer Boryana Pandova is presenting the exhibition "Dirty" in the Synthesis Gallery in Sofia. The exposition, curated by Nadezhda Pavlova, will open on March 11 and run until May 6, the organizers said Thursday.
This is the last project in the "Objects of Inattention" series, which the artist has been working on for more than twenty years. "In “Dirty”, Boryana maps the randomly formed compositions of objects rolling through the streets of Sofia. She, in the role of a forensic scientist without a crime, takes prints on a sticky film of the city streets, following the trajectory of her daily routes," the Synthesys team commented.
In their words, “Dirty” gravitates around the concept of objet trouvé (from the French for found object), where everyday objects, found in their natural environment, are transformed into art through their subjective placement in the frame. "Objet trouvé, a concept associated with Dadaism and Surrealism, describes the practice of finding and aesthetically reimagining objects that were not originally created with an artistic purpose in mind - a random found object, street trash, or something mundane that takes on new meanings through a change of context and the intervention of the artist," the organizers added.
Boryana Pandova graduated in Fine Art and Applied Photography at the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts (NATFA) “Krastyo Sarafov” and completed the Master's Programme in Photography at the National Academy of Arts. She is currently a PhD student at NATFA, where she also teaches. Her interests cross the boundaries between visual arts, literature, music and performing arts.
