Following statements to the media by an employee in the Burgas Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, an inspection has been immediately ordered by the Inspectorate Directorate in order to verify leaked data about illegal actions, said Interior Minister Daniel Mitov during a hearing in Parliament on Friday.

The hearing was regarding allegations by police officer Dimitar Nikolov from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Burgas about pressure on him to arrest a specific person.

The inspection also includes employees of the Internal Security Directorate and the National Police Directorate, the Minister of Interior said. Mitov added that a second inspection is being conducted in Burgas in connection with a signal of unlawful actions by employees during an action on May 16, 2024 in port Europe in Burgas.

“I call on the members of Parliament not to demonize or glorify any of the parties involved in this particular conflict,” said Daniel Mitov. He noted that after the end of the inspections and clarification of all the facts, all necessary disciplinary measures will be taken.

In connection with a comment on organized crime in the country and the work of law enforcement agencies, the Minister pointed out that political instability has also been reflected in the structures of the Interior Ministry. He argued that clear and decisive actions are needed for the Interior Ministry and other institutions to work as they should.
