June 6 (BTA) - Environment and
Water Minister Neno Dimov and Pazardjik Mayor Todor Popov
Thursday gave the start of the construction works for a waste
separation and composting facility in the city.

The facility will process household waste from Pazardjik and six
 other towns nearby.

Dimov said that that composting facilities which transform the
biodegradable waste into resources yield added value and will
probably become the basis of a totally new economy, not only in
Bulgaria but elsewhere in the world.

Popov said that the new facility is expected to reduce by up to
25 per cent the quantity of landfilled waste.

The project for the facility in Pazardjik is worth 20 million
leva and is funded by the Environment Operational Programme.
