Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil on Tuesday received the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Evelina Slavcheva at the Synodal Palace, the press service of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarchate (BOC-BP) said.

The important role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in strengthening the faith and spirituality of the Bulgarian people was highlighted at the meeting. Both institutions expressed their hope that the current cooperation will continue in the future and agreed to implement joint initiatives between the two institutions in the scientific and spiritual field.

Patriarch Daniil thanked Evelina Slavcheva, and through her the entire scientific community at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the letter, which supported the Bulgarian Orthodox Church - Bulgarian Patriarchate in the case with the registration of a second Orthodox Church.

The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Josephb of the USA, Canada and Australia, Metropolitan Gavriil of Lovech, Metropolitan John of  Varna and Veliki Preslav, Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop, Metropolitan Gerasim of Melnik, Secretary to the Hildy Synod and Associate Prof. Dr. Maria Kyoseva, legal adviser to the Holy Synod.

Corresponding member Atanas Kovachev from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences also participated.

Evelina Slavcheva presented  Patrarch Daniil with copies of original significant documents from the personal collection of Metropolitan Kliment of Tarnovo Clement (Vasil Drumev). He was among the founders of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the documents are kept in the archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Patriarch Daniil gifted the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with jubilee coins bearing the images of miracle-working icons of the Virgin Mary in the country, as well as a book, entitled "Civil Law Status of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church".

Earlier on Tuesday Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil and the bishops of the Holy Synod met with National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova. The meeting took place at Kiselova’s initiative, on the occasion of amendments to the Religious Denominations Act, in view of the registration of a second Orthodox Church in Bulgaria.
