Revenue Agency Data Leak

Sofia, July 24 (BTA) – Kristiyan Boykov, an employee at cyber security firm TAD Group, who was the first suspect in a major personal data breach at the National Revenue Agency (NRA) has been charged with terrorism along with his trade director, Georgi Yankov. The information was confirmed by BTA by their lawyer Georgi Stefanov on Wednesday.

The NRA breach for which Boykov and Yankov are charged, has affected millions of Bulgarians. The suspects deny any involvement.

Boykov was arrested several days after the leak last week and was released the next day on his own recognizance after NRA said that the system he allegedly hacked was not considered critical infrastructure. Yankov was summoned for questioning by the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) late on Tuesday.

The Interior Ministry said that a search in the company's offices lasted for more than six hours. The officers searched through and compiled inventories of documents and computer equipment, which will be used as evidence to the lawsuit over the leaked NRA databases.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov said that investigators have obtained enough evidence that Boykov carried out the hacking attack, as well as data about the instigator. IG/TH/LN
