During a hearing in Parliament on Wednesday, caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov said that there has not been a decision yet to suspend the granting of asylum to migrants from Syria. "The situation in that country is still too insecure for us to decided that everyone can go back," he added.

According to Kondov, it is good to wait in order to see the development of the situation in the coming weeks. "We should not have any illusions. We saw that in the last ten to fifteen years the processes of democratization in the region failed," he commented. In that sense, he believes there is no need to act in a hurry, "we are not under pressure for us to be in a hurry".

Asked by Daniel Lorer MP of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria whether Bulgaria is ready to assist in Syria's recovery, Kondov said that Bulgaria is following closely all processes and is taking part in the conferences on Syria's recovery. "We are ready to support this process as a country, but as an economy - that is another matter," he added.

Asked by Angel Georgiev of Vazrazhdane whether he will condemn Israel's aggression against Syria, Kondov said that Bulgaria acknowledges and defends the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria. "These attacks are currently being carried out in regions where these arms depots can fall into the hands of terrorist organizations, so in this case there is no violation of the territorial integrity or sovereignty of Syria," the Bulgarian Foreign Minister argued.
