Sonya Yoncheva performed a song recital at Bulgaria Hall on Tuesday, along with Scottish pianist Malcolm Martineau who was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2016 for his dedication and services to music worldwide.

The recital programme included the works Sole e amore, Terra e mare, Mentia l'avviso and Canto d'anime by Giacomo Puccini, Al folto bosco, placida ombria by Giuseppe Martucci, L'ultimo bacio and Ideale by Paolo Tosti, In solitaria stanza, Ad una stella, L'esule by Giuseppe Verdi. The second part of the recital featured arias by Puccini from Le Villi, Tosca, La Bohème and Madame Butterfly. Martineau performed a solo of Albeniz’s Tango en re.

The concert at the Bulgaria Hall ended with three encores, arias from Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Jules Massenet’s Manon.

“I always look for an alternative approach. I want the audience to hear not only the biggest hits, but also the lesser-known ones, that led to these hits existing," Yoncheva noted.
