site.btaCustoms Officers Seize Contraband Cigarettes at Lesovo Border Checkpoint

Bulgarian customs officers found more than 6,000 packs with over 120,000 contraband cigarettes while inspecting a truck at the Lesovo checkpoint on the border with Turkiye, the Customs Agency said on Thursday.

The cigarette packs were discovered in the hollows of sofas in a truck coming from Turkiye. They were impounded and the driver, a Turkish citizen, was issued with an act of administrative violation.

The Customs Agency noted that 200,000 more contraband cigarettes were seized at the Lesovo border checkpoint in the first ten months of 2024 than in the whole of 2023.
