site.btaCC-DB Withdraw Andrey Tsekov's Nomination for Parliament Chair, Will Support Oldest MP Silvi Kirilov for the Post

"By a decision of the Executive Council of Continue the Change (CC), in coordination with our coalition partners [Democratic Bulgaria (DB)], we have decided to withdraw the nomination of Andrey Tsekov and to support the nomination of the oldest MP - Silvi Kirilov [There Is Such a People], for the post of Parliament chair," CC co-leader Assen Vassilev said Monday during a joint statement by the leaders of CC-DB to the media.

"GERB should do the same - withdraw their candidate to find a solution to the parliamentary crisis," Atanas Atanasov of DB said.

CC co-leader Kiril Petkov commented that on Monday, the largest political force [GERB] has not given a solution on how to unclog this Parliament so it can start working. GERB leader Boyko Borissov is afraid to come to a leadership meeting, Petkov noted.

Earlier in the day, after a meeting of the GERB Executive Committee, Denitsa Sacheva announced that there would be leadership talks only to form a ruling majority and a regular government. Boyko Borissov announced another decision of the Executive Committee: if elected Parliament chair, GERB's Raya Nazaryan will not agree to be caretaker prime minister.

Parliament made three futile attempts to elect its chair last week.
