Bulgaria's participation in the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku starts Tuesday with President Rumen Radev's national statement and high-level events in the country's pavilion.

Radev leads a delegation which includes Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov, Innovation and Growth Minister Rosen Karadimov, and representatives of state institutions and agencies, of innovative companies and industrial enterprises.

Radev will host a high-level forum with a focus on the preservation and development of the competitiveness of the economies in view of the EU's ambitions for a net-zero future. Participating in the event will be Iliana Ivanova, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, James Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Ambroise Fayolle, Vice President of the European Investment Bank, and Jurgen Rigterink, First Vice President the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

On Tuesday, the Bulgarian Pavilion will host discussions organized by the Green Transition Forum. They are devoted to mobilizing capital for climate action and to decarbonizing industries. EIB Vice President Lilyana Pavlova will moderate a discussion on climate finance. The participants include representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Bulgarian Development Bank and private business.

Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov will represent Bulgaria at the 9th Ministerial Meeting/Steering Committee Meeting pursuant to the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Field of Green Energy Development and Transmission between the Governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary, the Energy Ministry said.

Malinov will also participate in a Ministerial Dialogue: Scaling up Investment for Tripling Renewables and Doubling Energy Efficiency with his counterparts from the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Brazil, European Commission representatives, and International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol, among others.

Tuesday's agenda of the COP29 Summit also includes a high-level meeting on climate action for children, discussions on the full activation of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change, and a high-level meeting on methane and non-hydrocarbon greenhouse gas emissions co-chaired by Azerbaijan, China and the United States.
